XRP Lawsuit Hits 4-Year Mark as Ripple Urges Trump for SEC Reform

Ripple is calling on the SEC to rebuild trust as its four-year legal fight over XRP persists, with hopes for policy shifts under incoming leadership.

Ripple Urges SEC to Rebuild Credibility Amid XRP Lawsuit

Ripple remains vocal in its ongoing legal battle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), urging the agency to rebuild credibility as the case continues to unfold. The company’s top legal officer, Stuart Alderoty, called on the incoming administration to address issues stemming from the case.

Alderoty marked the lawsuit’s fourth anniversary with a strong message on social media platform X on Sunday, stating:

On this 4th anniversary of the SEC’s lawless lawsuit against Ripple, Brad, & Chris, we urge the incoming administration to cleanse the lingering stain of Hinman from the agency. There’s much more to do to repair the damage, but let’s start by restoring trust.

The dispute, which began four years ago, focuses on allegations that Ripple’s sale of XRP tokens constituted unregistered securities offerings. The SEC sued Ripple, CEO Brad Garlinghouse, and co-founder Chris Larsen. While Ripple scored a partial legal victory in 2023, the SEC is pursuing an appeal.

The remarks by Ripple’s chief legal officer reflect the company’s long-standing criticism of former SEC official William Hinman, whose statements on ethereum’s regulatory status have been a point of contention throughout the case.

With President-elect Donald Trump set to take office, speculation is growing that his administration may be more supportive of cryptocurrency, potentially reshaping SEC leadership. A new Chair and a designated “Crypto Czar” could set clearer guidelines for digital assets, a move Ripple has consistently advocated. Ripple sees this as a chance to turn the tide in the industry’s favor, fostering regulatory transparency and trust. Despite ongoing legal hurdles, Ripple remains optimistic that the incoming administration will prioritize developing fairer policies, reducing regulatory uncertainty, and encouraging innovation in the crypto space.
