According to newly released data from the Social Security Administration, Solana has catapulted from rank 933 in 2023 to 691 in 2024, and now stands at an impressive 242nd place in 2025, making it one of the fastest-rising baby names in the U.S.

Derived from Spanish and Latin origins, “Solana” translates to “sunshine” or “sunny place.” The word evokes warmth, beauty, and nature—qualities that are increasingly valued by modern parents.
Linguistically, “solana” traditionally referred to the sunny side of a mountain or valley in Mediterranean regions. In Spanish, it’s also defined as a place exposed to the sun, rooted in the Latin word “sol” for sun.
The name gained additional cultural recognition thanks to Grammy-winning R&B artist SZA, whose full name is Solána Imani Rowe. Naming experts suggest the rise in popularity is partially inspired by her melodic name and positive public image.

Interestingly, while parents are choosing Solana for its beauty and meaning, many are inadvertently nodding to one of the top cryptocurrencies in the world.
Founded by Raj Gokal and Anatoly Yakovenko, the Solana blockchain takes its name from Solana Beach, California, where the co-founders lived and worked.
“Solana comes from Solana Beach. Me and my co-founders lived there, we’d wake up, we’d surf, bike to work, go back home, and surf again,” said Yakovenko in a 2023 interview.
Since its inception, the blockchain has evolved into a high-performance Layer 1 network, currently processing 4,388 transactions per second, with 86.5% of supply in circulation, according to Solana Explorer.
