Solana (SOL), one of the fastest-growing Layer 1 blockchains, has officially raised its block limit from 50 million to 60 million Compute Units (CUs) as of July 24, as revealed by crypto influencer @martypartymusic. This 20% increase is a strategic move aimed at improving network throughput and minimizing transaction times, key components of Solana’s long-term scaling roadmap.
The block size expansion stems from the SIMD-0256 proposal, which was spearheaded by Andrew Fitzgerald in collaboration with the broader Solana Validator Community. Interestingly, there has been no formal statement from Solana Labs or the Solana Foundation regarding this change, yet the decentralized nature of the community has driven the enhancement forward.
This technical upgrade is expected to allow significantly more transactions per block, ultimately optimizing transaction velocity. The increase in Compute Units means each block can now handle a larger amount of computational data, directly contributing to the platform’s performance in handling high-volume decentralized applications (dApps) and DeFi protocols.
