- Grab and Polygon’s collaboration introduces a Web3 Wallet for Singaporean users.
- The wallet supports XSGD payments and SG Pitstop Pack NFT vouchers.
- Grab’s Web3 wallet exclusively integrates with the Polygon PoS Chain.
In a strategic move, Grab, renowned as a Southeast Asian “super app,” has unveiled its Web3 Wallet designed for Singaporean users, harnessing the power of Polygon’s cutting-edge technology. This innovative wallet allows seamless transactions utilizing XSGD, a stablecoin pegged to the Singapore dollar and issued by StraitsX.
Polygon has officially confirmed Grab’s deployment of a Polygon-based Web3 Wallet, primarily geared towards digital payment vouchers and collectibles. This pioneering wallet from Grab serves as a practical example of purpose-bound funds for commercial transactions, leveraging StraitsX’s XSGD.
Singaporean Grab users were quick to spot the emergence of this Web3 wallet about two weeks ago, with Circle, the company responsible for the USDC stablecoin, announcing its technological involvement in Grab’s Singaporean Web3 wallet pilot on September 14.
This development carries significant weight due to Grab’s stature as a super app, often likened to the role played by WeChat in China. With a massive user base of 180 million individuals, Grab provides a wide array of services spanning banking, food delivery, car rentals, and insurance.
However, it’s worth noting that Grab’s wallet offers a centralized user experience, requiring a PIN for login instead of a private key.
Moreover, the wallet extends support for XSGD and SG Pitstop Pack NFT vouchers, which are digital vouchers distributed by local businesses in celebration of the recent Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix. This wallet streamlines transactions without necessitating users to hold native network tokens, though it currently does not accommodate other digital assets like ETH.
Polygon has pointed out that these NFT vouchers can be exchanged for physical items within Singapore or redeemed for digital collectibles. It’s important to highlight that Grab’s Web3 wallet exclusively integrates with the Polygon PoS Chain, marking a notable milestone in the Web3 wallet landscape.
