Airbnb users want crypto payment options, according to CEO Twitter poll

Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky tweeted a survey Monday asking its some 400,000 subscribers what they expected from the rental platform in 2022.

Chesky revealed today that the majority of those polled wish they could pay with Bitcoin (BTC) or other popular digital currencies when renting their next home or apartment on Airbnb. Other requests included clear price displays, a loyalty program for visitors, up-to-date cleaning fees, and improved customer service.

Chesky also added that he has seen a number of token ideas, implying that Airbnb’s potential cryptocurrency payment selection will not be limited to just one or two digital assets. Chesky spoke about the potential of new technologies. In September, he told Fox Business that the company had received numerous inquiries regarding crypto payments:

“We get a lot of requests, I’ve been getting it for years, I have nothing to say about it today.”

During a November interview with The Verge’s Nilay Patel, he was asked about his thoughts on the future of crypto and the metaverse:

“We’re definitely thinking about it. Absolutely. Like the travel revolution, there is clearly a revolution going on in crypto. Airbnb and crypto both have interesting relationships with trust.”
